Issue
OpenTelemetry Licensing explanation
Solution
APM now supports OpenTelemetry which allows users to send SPAN data to APM.
OpenTelemetry licensing is an addition to existing APM licensing. You will need to purchase/add OpenTelemetry licensing to your account/Analysis server for you to make sure of OpenTelemetry data in APM.

Understanding OpenTelemetry license:
  • OpenTelemetry license will provide a monthly count of SPAN's that can be processed. The SPAN count will reset every month depending on when you have procured the license.
  • OpenTelemetry license will have a expiration data after which no SPAN's will be processed.
  • No SPAN's will be processed once you reach the monthly count allocated on your license. SPAN's will continue to flow into the Analysis server but will not be processed.
  • On Expiration of the license you will have one month as grace period where you can continue to log into the UI and look into older SPAN data.
OpenTelemetry Licensing States:
  • Trial - This is the state is found when Analysis server is first initialized and a trail license of 2 weeks is provided. A count of 1 Million SPAN's will be included in this state
  • Licensed - This is the state where a user has purchased a license and has activated this license on their current Analysis Server. SPAN count is dependent on what has been purchased.
  • Expired - This is the state where the license has expired. SPAN's will continue to flow giving user time to renew or purchase new licenses
  • Grace (SaaS ONLY) - This is the state where the license has already expired, granting an additional 30 days to the license. SPANs will continue to flow during this time but will not be processed. This allows user to continue accessing past SPAN data in APM UI
NOTE:
OpenTelemetry license should not impact APM traditional licensing. A valid APM license or OpenTelemetry license is needed for Analysis server to continue working and to access APM UI
