How to check DB (Oracle and Vertica) connection from ETL server

Issue

Test proper communication between Oracle DB or Vertica DB and ETL server with tools that are available as part of ETL installation.

Solution

In order to test connection with Oracle DB, sqlcl tool should be used:
 
Usage: sql -L <OracleDB-Username>/<OracleDB-Password@<OracleDB-Hostname/IP>:<OracleDB-Port>/<OracleDB-SID>

For example:
 

Note: by default the sqlcl installed under /opt/sqlcl/bin/sql, in case not found use find / -name "sql" to locate it on your machine.


In order to test connection with Vertica DB, vsql tool should be used:

Usage: vsql -h <VerticaDB-Hostname/IP> -d <VerticaDB-databaseName> -U <VerticaDB-Username> -w <VerticaDB-Password>

For example:
 

Note: by default the vsql installed under /opt/vertica/bin/vsql, in case not found use find / -name "vsql" to locate it on your machine.
