Solution

What if the user plugs more than 8 SUs?
>Only 8 SUs will be shown and used during enrollment. The exceeding SUs will be logged in /var/log/sa_mgmtd.log.

What if the user mixes SCAN-SU-48TB and SCAN-SU-72TB?
>They will be shown as UNCONFIGURED. If you try to enroll them, the process will fail.

Disk redundancy is per volume or global?
>Per HW RAID volume. We create a HW RAID volume for every SU and then all the volumes are put together in a RAID0 software array.

How many disks can fail with n Storage Units in RAID5/6?
>One (RAID5) or two (RAID5) disks can fail per SU. With n SUs, we can only say that, at most, n disks can fail in RAID5 and 2n disks can fail in RAID6 but this is true only if the n disks (or the n couple of disks) all belong to separate SUs.
>For example, with 4 SUs in RAID5 we can tolerate the failure of up to 4 disks, if we have one failed disk per SU. If all the 4 disks (or even just 2) fail on the same SU, the Packet Storage will be INOPERABLE

Is it possible to backup information contained in the SUs?
>No. How the data is laid out in the SUs is not under the control of the user. It's not possible to :
Move data from one SU to another .
Consolidate all data on a single SU.

Is it possible to move SUs from a Head System to another one?
>Yes but, if you do that, all data will be lost (as the SUs will be re-enrolled)

Which SCAN-0XXXX support multiple SU?
>NetShark SCAN-06170, only.

What are the options to connect multiple SUs?
>We use only the existing RAID card already in SCAN-6170. No additional card is required (or supported).
>Single daisy chain from Head Unit.
>Dual daisy chain is technically possible (the software will not prevent it) but it’s not qualified by engineering.

Can a SU be selectively removed in software?
>No. SUs must be physically unplugged or turned off.
