How to create a Software Gateway
- Login to Riverbed SteelConnect Manager
- Navigate to Appliances > Add appliances > Create Software Gateway and select Model Gateway VM or Gateway JumpStart
- Select the Site you want to deploy the appliance
- Further Networks can be added in Network Design > Zones later on demand. These Zones can then be assigned to a Gateway Port in the Ports section
- Please note that if Default Gateway configuration is set to Automatic then the Gateway will always configure itself with the Default Gateway IP from the IP configuration of the zone
- Additionally you can enable Gateway services like IPv4 DHCP server and IPv6 RA per Zone
- Once the configuration is complete select your Gateway and switch to Live tab and choose your image type via (Re-)Build image; after image generation is finished push the Download button
Gateway VM
- Import the virtual image in your virtualization platform
- In SteelConnect, the Gateway VM is created with 3 LAN ports in the initial deployment. However, the amount of LAN ports will be adjusted to your virtual machine settings when booting up the Gateway VM. The maximum amount of LAN ports is restricted by your virtualization platform. Please reboot the Gateway VM after making changes to the virtual machine settings to reflect them in CC.
Gateway JumpStart
- Extract the downloaded archive and plug an empty USB stick into your PC
- On Microsoft Windows run the OcedoLegacyFlashTool.exe to write the Gateway JumpStart Firmware to the USB stick
- On Linux, please open a terminal and use the command:
pv ocedo-legacy.img|sudo dd of=/dev/DEVICE
Where DEVICE represents the actual name of your USB stick
- On Mac OS X, open a terminal and run:
diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN; sudo dd if=ocedo-legacy.img of=/dev/rdiskN bs=1m
Where N represents the USB stick disk number as shown in the output of diskutil list
- Once the USB stick is successfully flashed plug it into the Gateway JumpStart hardware
- Plug the network cables into the configured Gateway Port(s) and wait a few minutes until the appliance appears online in SteelConnect Manager
Initial provisioning
Please note that the configuration won’t be applied to the USB stick just the firmware. The configuration will be applied after initial provisioning by the SteelConnect. Initial provisioning for a Gateway JumpStart will always use LAN Port 1. It’s critical to make sure that internet connectivity and a DHCP server are available on LAN Port 1 of the Appliance to allow the first provisioning to succeed.
Factory reset
Currently there is no factory reset option on the Gateway JumpStart so that you have to flash the USB stick again as described in section Gateway JumpStart. After successful flashing plug the USB stick back to your Gateway. On next boot, the Gateway JumpStart will contact SteelConnect again for initial provisioning.
