Best Practices for BPRE (Byte Pattern Recognition Engine)

I want to enable BPRE; are there any things I need to be aware of?

Solution

 [Best Practices]

  • Appliance should be used as a dedicated appliance for the use of BPRE
  • No other modules should be running, the only module supported is WTA (Web Transaction Analysis)
  • Before enabling BPRE, you should check the health of the appliance using the AHC (Appliance Health Check) Insight in the Desktop Console -> Insights -> Support
  • If health check looks good, go ahead and enable BPRE
  • After enabling BPRE, wait for 30 minutes and check the health of the appliance. If you notice any packet drops, then you need to scale back the traffic
  • The recommended packet rate with BPRE feature enabled is 100 Mbps, so if you notice packet drops then appliance is unable to keep up with the traffic volume
  • When BPRE is enabled with WTA, the appliance can process approximately 20,000 HTTP requests per minute

Environment

 AppResponse Xpert, BPRE, performance
