SteelCentral AppInternals Service Management Platform install on Windows fails with 'Error 1935. An occurred during the installation of assembly component' error

Installing SteelCentral AppInternals Service Management Platform (SMP) on Windows server and we get the error below. What do we do?

The error seems to be because of an unsuccessful install of prior Windows Updates OR Custom MSI packages could have left over faulty registry keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS.

This is what you can do in case of the the above error

1. Close the installer.
2. Navigate to Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs or Uninstall programs.
3. Make sure Riverbed AppInternals Xpert Service Management Platform 9.0.0 is not installed.
4. Follow the steps listed in the article below.

5. Run the SMP installer and it should finish the install successfully.
