Issue

Is it safe to use SITL simulations inside virtual machines(Linux/Windows guest OS)?

Solution

OPNET recommends that for timing sensitive simulations where timing of packet delivery to the simulation and back to real world is crucial, you not consider running a SITL simulation inside a virtual machine. Some operating systems / network card drivers can affect this behavior adversely and you may find for instance ping response time vary erratically between pings.

Environment

DES Kernel->SITL
