Issue

I have upgraded to the latest major version of OPNET (e.g. 7.0 to 8.0) but I cannot run simulations due to aborts when loading the scenario model library. Why might this be?

Solution

When upgrading from OPNET 7.0 to OPNET 8.0 or any major version upgrade, if you are using custom models built in 7.0 , you will have to recompile them in 8.0. If you are using only standard models, consider using repositories. This will prevent these errors from occurring. This will also ensure that individual .nt.so files are not created for each scenario.

Reference KB: S21023 for repositories

If you have custom models, an easy way to recompile your models would be to use the force-compile option which will ensure that new .o and .so files will be generated.

Reference KB: S21096 for force compile.

NOTE: Recompiling the models requires that you have the source code for the models.A symptom of this the following Simulation Kernel error message<<< Program Abort >>> * Time: 15:40:32 Tue Jan 8 2002 * Product: modeler * Package: Simulation Kernel * Function: sim_err_print (severity_level, str0, str1) * Error: Error loading scenario model library -- unable to proceed

You might also see errors such as fatal: relocation errorso: symbol This_File_Was_Compiled_With_OPNET_x.x(where x.x is the version it was compiled with.)
