How can I generate an example environment file (sim_attrs.ef) for running simulations? Why would I need to do this?

Solution

For background on why you would need to do this, please read the FAQ Why do I get different results when I run a simulation from the command line vs. running from the OPNET GUI?There are two ways you can generate an example environment file.First, if you run your simulation and pause it before it completes, you should see a file called sim_attrs.ef in your primary models directory (the directory listed first in your mod_dirs). The file will be deleted when the simulation completes, so simply copy it to another location or copy it to a different name.In addition, you can add the option attr_reqs_file to store away all attribute requests and their reported values (place this in your env_db):attr_reqs_file: my_attribute_requestsThe file my_attribute_requests or my_attribute_requests.ef will be created after the simulation completes, with name:value pairs for all attribute values that were requested during the simulation, and not found on objects (i.e. those that were set in simulation attributes or in the simulation sequence file).
