Issue

Where do my new model files and vector files go?

Solution

The first model directory in the mod_dirs list (found in the Preferences table under the Edit menu) serves a special purpose and is called the primary model directory. This directory is the default location where new models are stored when saved or created by OPNET programs. For instance, if you enter OPNET, start the Project Editor, create a new project, and save it, it will be stored in the primary model directory. If the primary model directory is not the appropriate location for a new model, you can move it to the desired model directory via the UNIX mv or Windows NT cut/paste command. On the other hand, models that are not new (because they already exist within the model directories) are saved to the locations where they were when OPNET started. Also, OPNET programs enforce certain coupling relationships between models, thus causing new models to be stored in non-primary model directories. For instance, a new output vector file will be stored in the same model directory as the project that created it. Model coupling applies to all models and related files that are derived from other models. Please refer to the online documentation, OPNET Online Documentation: External Interfaces Menu: System Environment: User Model Directories, for a table that lists the coupling relationships in OPNET.
