How can I create more detailed PDFs, antenna patterns, or modulation functions?
Because the OPNET uses graphical editors for defining PDFs, antenna patterns, and modulation schemes, the resulting data may not be as precise as required for a certain simulation study. The most precise way to specify a PDF, antenna pattern, or modulation scheme is to create it from using an EMA (External Model Access) program. These files, when created via EMA applications can still be viewed graphically in the tool, but because the graph is created programmatically either from an algorythm or table of values the resulting model will probably be more precise than one created from user mouse-clicks.The best plan to follow in order to achieve this is to create the general frame work of your desired model in the appropriate editor. Once you have the basic data entered, you can create the beginnings of your EMA program selecting Generate EMA Code from the file menu or using the generate EMA program action button in pre-5.0 versions. This will create an EMA source code file called <model_name>.em.c in your primary model directory. You can then edit this file and add more precise data or add code to generate the data points programatically. Once you have modified the EMA source file, you will need to compile using op_mkema (m3_mkema in older versions). Then run the resulting executable to generate the new model file.
