CVE-2009-1633: kernel CIFS denial of service using malformed unicode characters (Bug #45179)

Product
SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead (Central Management Console)
Fixed in Version:
RBT CMC 5.5.1a, RBT CMC 5.5.2, RBT CMC 5.5.2
Last Modified:
2014-08-11
Summary
Details:

Multiple buffer overflows in the cifs subsystem in the Linux kernel allow remote CIFS servers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) and possibly have unspecified other impact via (1) a malformed Unicode string, related to Unicode string area alignment in fs/cifs/sess.c; or (2) long Unicode characters

Fix:

Patches for kernel CIFS client security vulnerability CVE-2009-1633.

Recommendation:

Upgrade to patched version if applicable. Note that currently, only CMC 5.5.1 and newer use CIFS client functionality. (Only CMC 5.5.1 is vulnerable.)
