CVE-2008-1447: DNS Insufficient Socket Entropy Vulnerability (Bug #30827)

Products:
SteelHead (Appliance), SteelHead Interceptor
Fixed in Version:
RBT IC 2.0.0, RBT SH 5.0.3
Last Modified:
2014-03-20
Summary
Details:

The DNS protocol in BIND allows remote attackers to spoof DNS traffic via a birthday attack that uses in-bailiwick referrals to conduct cache poisoning against recursive resolvers, related to insufficient randomness of DNS transaction IDs and source ports, aka "DNS Insufficient Socket Entropy Vulnerability" or "the Kaminsky bug."

Fix:

Upgraded bind for CVE-2008-1447. The upgraded bind uses randomized UDP source ports.

Recommendation:

Upgrade to patched version if applicable
