Last Modified:

Summary
Details:

CVE-2016-0777: An information leak (memory disclosure) can be exploited by a rogue SSH server to trick a client into leaking sensitive data from the client memory, such as private keys.

CVE-2016-0778: A buffer overflow (leading to file descriptor leak), can also be exploited by a rogue SSH server, but due to another bug in the code is possibly not exploitable, and only under certain conditions (not the default configuration), when using ProxyCommand, ForwardAgent, or ForwardX11.

Note: CVE-2016-0778 does not apply to Riverbed appliances, because the specified configuration options are not used. Both vulnerabilities apply only to client use, not server use.

Fix:

We have upgraded OpenSSH to 7.1p2 to fix the above vulnerabilities.

Recommendation:

Upgrade to a version with this fix. Otherwise, avoid using the "ssh slogin" command to log in to untrusted servers.
