CVE-2015-0235 - The glibc gethostbyname buffer overflow (GHOST vulnerability). A heap-based buffer overflow was found in the glibc __nss_hostname_digits_dots() function that is used by the gethostbyname() and gethostbyname2() glibc function calls. (Bug #225488)

Products:
SteelHead (Appliance), SteelHead Interceptor
Fixed in Version:
steelhead 8.6.2b, steelhead 9.0.1, interceptor 4.5.2, interceptor 4.0.1f, steelhead 9.1.0
Last Modified:

Summary
Details:

A heap-based buffer overflow was found in the glibc __nss_hostname_digits_dots() function that is used by the gethostbyname() and gethostbyname2() glibc function calls. A remote attacker, able to make an application call to either of these functions, could use this flaw to execute arbitrary code with the permissions of the user running the application. (that is, a GHOST vulnerability)

Fix:

The glibc library has been updated to patch the GHOST vulnerability.

Recommendation:

Upgrade to patched version if applicable. See knowledge base article S25833 for more details.
