CVE-2014-0224: OpenSSL weak keying MITM vulnerability (Bug #168163)

Products:
SteelHead (Appliance), SteelHead Interceptor, SteelCentral Controller for SteelHead (Central Management Console)
Fixed in Version:
cmc 8.5.0e, cmc 8.6.0a, steelhead 8.6.0a, steelhead 8.5.3a, interceptor 4.5.0, steelhead 8.0.6b, interceptor 4.0.1c, steelhead 9.0.0
Last Modified:
2015-06-04
Summary
Details:

OpenSSL before 0.9.8za, 1.0.0 before 1.0.0m, and 1.0.1 before 1.0.1h does not properly restrict processing of ChangeCipherSpec messages, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to trigger use of a zero-length master key in certain OpenSSL-to-OpenSSL communications, and consequently hijack sessions or obtain sensitive information, via a crafted TLS handshake, aka the "CCS Injection" vulnerability.

Fix:

Upgraded OpenSSL as used by device management to 1.0.1h (or 0.9.8za for some older releases using 0.9.8) to fix CVE-2014-0224. This patch also addresses the following security bugs that do not affect RiOS:

DTLS recursion flaw (CVE-2014-0221)
DTLS invalid fragment vulnerability (CVE-2014-0195)
SSL_MODE_RELEASE_BUFFERS NULL pointer dereference (CVE-2014-0198)
SSL_MODE_RELEASE_BUFFERS session injection or denial of service (CVE-2010-5298)
Anonymous ECDH denial of service (CVE-2014-3470)

Recommendation:

Upgrade to patched version if applicable
