CVE-2014-0092: GnuTLS Certificate Validation Security Bypass Vulnerability (Bug #160623)

Product
SteelHead (Appliance)
Fixed in Version:
steelhead 8.6.0, steelhead 8.5.3
Last Modified:
2015-06-08
Summary
Details:

GnuTLS fails to properly handle certain errors in x.509 certificate verification which could result in a specially-crafted certificate being accepted as valid even when issued by any non trusted Certificate Authority. This can be used to perform man-in-the-middle attacks against applications using GnuTLS.

Fix:

The GnuTLS shared library is installed but not used on RiOS 8.0.0-8.0.5 and 8.5.0-8.5.2b. However, this library has now been removed from future RiOS releases.

Recommendation:

RiOS software is not vulnerable to CVE-2014-0092 since it does not use the GnuTLS library. However, it is recommended that the software be upgraded to a version that does not ship with the vulnerable library.
