CVE-2012-0053 - Apache: error responses can expose cookies (Bug #118765)

Products:
SteelHead EX (Appliance), SteelHead (Appliance), SteelHead Interceptor
Fixed in Version:
RBT SH 7.0.5d, RBT IC 3.0.0c, RBT SH 7.0.6, RBT IC 4.0.0, RBT SH-EX 1.0.5, interceptor 3.0.0c, interceptor 4.0.0
Last Modified:
2015-05-14
Summary
Details:

protocol.c in the Apache HTTP Server 2.2.x through 2.2.21 does not properly restrict header information during construction of Bad Request (aka 400) error documents, which allows remote attackers to obtain the values of HTTPOnly cookies via vectors involving a long or malformed header in conjunction with a crafted web script.

Fix:

While not officially documented on the list of vulnerabilites for the 2.0 branch of Apache httpd, this vulnerability is present in httpd 2.0.64. We have applied the patch available at http://people.apache.org/~trawick/2.0-CVE-2012-0053-r1234837.patch, which is the same patch applied to the Apache 2.2 branch.

Recommendation:

Upgrade to patched version if applicable.
