Description

Steelhead CX6090 and CX8090 appliances may experience unexpected reboots while running RiOS 10.3.0a.

Issue

Steelhead CX6090 and CX8090 appliances running RiOS 10.3.0a may experience unexpected reboots. The issue was internally linked to the BMC and the reproduction was shared with our hardware vendor. The vendor provided a fix that did not reproduce the issue.

Solution

Upgrade the affected CX6090/8090 appliance to RiOS 10.3.0b. After the upgrade has completed, run “hardware enable rfut” from the CLI to update the BMC firmware.

Step 1: Upgrade to RiOS 10.3.0b

Step 2: After the upgrade has completed and the Steelhead has fully booted up, ssh into the Steelhead and follow the procedure below.

Login as local 'admin'. You can't log in as another user with admin privileges. RFUT will not run properly other than local admin account.
Use the following CLI commands to initiate the firmware upgrade:

Steelhead > enable
Steelhead # config t
Steelhead (config) # hardware enable rfut
Steelhead (config) # reload

Step 3: After the Steelhead has completed rebooting, the BMC version can be verified by generating a sysdump and inspecting the hardwareinfo.txt file.

  1. Generate sysdump via UI/CLI.
  2. Unzip the sysdump and open the hardwareinfo.txt file.
  3. Search for BMC in hardwareinfo.txt.
  4. Verify “Firmware Rev” is now 0.11. Previous version was 0.10.

An example from hardwareinfo.txt showing the updated BMC firmware version is shown below.

Output of uh8l --open -d:
