Solution

NetProfiler and Flow Gateway software version naming convention.

Release type

Example version

Release contents

Major Release

10.27

Contains significant new features and may also contain minor new features, software error corrections, security patches and vulnerabilities fixes.

Patch/Maintenance Release

10.27.1

Contains security patches and vulnerabilities fixes.

Explanation:

First Number (X): Indicates the major software version (e.g., 10).
Second Number (Y): Represents the feature release train (e.g., 27 in 10.27).
Third Number (Z): Shows the maintenance release version (e.g., 1 in 10.27.1).

Starting from v10.27 release , there is going to be frequent Patch/Maintenance release to address the vulnerabilities and there is a change in the upgrade path, please refer to the details below.

1) User can directly upgrade NetProfiler and Flow Gateway from a major release to the next major release and doesn't need to go through Patch/Maintenance release.

For instance :

  a) User wants to upgrade from v10.27 to v10.28.

In this case, the upgrade path will be v10.27 -> v10.28.

  b) User wants to upgrade from v10.27 to v10.29.

In this case, the upgrade path will be v10.27 -> v10.28 -> v10.29

2) However if the appliance is in a Patch/Maintenance release then user has to go via through all the Patch/Maintenance release inbetween to the next the next major release.

For instance :

  a) User wants to upgrade from v10.27.1 to v10.28.

In this case, the upgrade path will be v10.27.1 -> v10.27.2 -> v10.28.
